It's an intentional or unintentional deception to say that "the people" will be able to win any kind of victory over evil, without Jesus Christ at the forefront of, and guiding any and every action/feeling/thought. If you need proof of that, have a clinical look at what happened to every previous culture/people that chose "gods" other than the true God Jesus Christ - they're not exactly looking too good anymore.
My own "journey" to having come to this point with certainty and faith is very long, I'm quite the oldfag, but can say with confidence that Bibles translated from the Textus Receptus such as the KJV Bible (the most hated-by-the-"jews" version) are going to be the most accurate, and that people who promote anything even resembling "new agey" are actually promoting occultism/ancient-babylon-religions/etc. for whatever reason. I ended up begging Him for help to find out the real truth about Him and to take away my remaining unbelief, because I was so confused and in terrible pain - it still took effort though, and I discovered a lot of very unsettling but also comforting things. Having said that, I suggest that people are careful about who they actually pray to, because sometimes it could be a demon that gets called - usually pretending to be Jesus or "Jesus-like". Prayer to God must be earnest and unselfish. Being gleeful about Neer's (apparent) death, and then praying about all the stuff one wants won't be calling out to Jesus Christ, but instead be calling out to devils/demons, and then could one even notice the difference?
Personally, I start with the Lord's Prayer but before ending with "Amen" and then adding at the very end "Nevertheless not my will, but yours be done" (and meaning it), I'll humbly ask what's on my mind. For example, I'll humbly ask that if it be His will, that He'll protect Steam from the demons that he's invited into his life (and those that were forced upon him). :3
This is coming from someone who's extremely independent, but I know that I'll always be the child, and He the Heavenly (and loving) Father, so it's not something to resist, but instead embrace. He's also the King, and the Lord, and the Master and truest Friend as well.
