They were 640 MB discs burned with multiple copies of only a handful of pictures at different resolutions. It was $40 for like 5-10 different pictures, which is about $75 in today's money accounting for inflation.
It's equivalent to paying $15-30 per month on Patreon to get two new pictures each month… oh, I guess people are still that stupid.

For example, there is a thread "what got you into furry." Assholes dump their entire furry collection into it. Thus destroying the thread. That happened with numerous threads. Then again, ychan detects if an image already exists and shows you the location. You can link the original to a different thread if appropriate. Still, assholes tamper with the file to upload a completely unneeded duplicate.
All in all because of the way ychan has been trashed, I doubt it will survive long.
