Hii! I'm Gio, I go by she/her, and I came out as trans in January of 2024. I live in Denmark with my extremely supportive husband, and I really want to start HRT. Even before I came out in January I have been stressed about wanting to start HRT, but as I approach 30 years old I stress more and more over the effectiveness of HRT (for context I am 27, turning 28 in May). Ever since I came out I've been trying and trying to start HRT, but the requirements of the public doctors where I live are too strict and they are gatekeeping me from my dream. I am so scared of starting HRT too late for it to be effective, and it has already been a year since coming out, so I wish to go the private healthcare route. Other trans girls I know use a private healthcare provider called Imago that specializes in HRT. Even though they're the cheapest option, everything added up to just start my hormones is still far too expensive for me since I have been having trouble finding employment for the last year.
Here is a breakdown of the costs for me to start HRT
Imago setup fee: €250
Imago monthly fee: €20
Approximate cost of first blood test required to review an HRT prescription: 3000dkk
Approximate cost of first prescription: 800dkk
So adding the Imago setup and monthly fee together, translating to DKK, and adding with the blood work and prescription cost, everything adds up to approximately 5850dkk, hence the 6000dkk goal.
Once I reach my goal I will make my appointment with Imago and withdraw from the fundraiser,.only using the raised funds for the expenses mentioned above.
I will only raise the goal if I find that one of the mentioned expenses is more expensive than previously researched. I only expect the blood work to be possibly differ, as the cost I found is only an estimate and not from a specific blood lab. Hopefully the blood work is actually cheaper! If I am left with more money than needed to start HRT, the leftover will be used to buy a good wire bra to support chest growth, buy future month's prescription, and/or pay for future bloodwork.
