Trump doesn't have the IQ to understand that nuance. He wants to level a complete tax on everything and anything that comes in from places that he doesn't like.

They can't blame the democrats when it gets raised and they have conditioned their followers to think the debt ceiling is the dick-cheese of the devil himself.
Unfortunately for Trump, the real president, Elon Musk stepped in and told Republicans to ignore Trump.
Instead Republicans are now saying they will be willing to raise the debt ceiling under Trump after they get back from holiday as long as they get to slash social security and medicare so they can fuck over poor people to pay for tax cuts to the rich.
