Waited in line for 4 hours,I did get my badge. They fucked over a lot of people as badges were required to get into the dance even if you preregistred. Then they put on site reg with prereg. That makes sense…..people were pissed. They could've let prereg people just show their receipt at the door to get into Thursday events. Anthrocon fucked up bigly.

PITTSBURGH —
A South Carolina man is charged with aggravated assault after allegedly attacking a transgender woman with a sword at Pittsburgh’s Wyndham Grand Hotel.
Police said the incident happened a little after 1 a.m. on Thursday.
Investigators said police got a call for a person in a hallway bleeding and screaming for help.
Responding officers later found the victim in the lobby and blood on the floor and walls of the fifth floor.
Police said the victim had a severe laceration on her hand and that she would at least need stitches, for which the victim opted to go to the hospital on her own.
According to a criminal complaint, police spoke with a witness who said he, the victim, and another man came to Pittsburgh for Anthrocon.
According to that witness, Jake O’Leary, 26, of Greensville, South Carolina, called them and asked them to come to Pittsburgh a day earlier than they planned originally and that they could stay overnight with him until their own hotel was ready.
The group gathered at a room at the Wyndham Grand and, after going to bed, O’Leary allegedly got up, grabbed a sword and began swinging it.
Police said the victim shielded herself from the blows and was struck multiple times.
At some point during the incident, O’Leary also suffered an injury to his face and was taken to the hospital before being taken to jail.
O’Leary is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on July 15.

>>3745481"The men were getting ready to go to bed around 1 a.m. when the witness told police that he heard O’Leary yell, “Allah does not approve,” leave the bed, and grab a large, black sword. O’Leary began “wildly swinging” it at the man, the complaint said.
The victim shielded himself, the complaint said, and O’Leary struck him multiple times before the other two men could intervene, the complaint said."

>>3745482How the hell did the con allow a sword? Even a weeb/nerd con they had a security check.

>>3745503The sword was not in the Anthrocon venue. It was in a hotel room. The Anthrocon staff have very little say about who or what is allowed in the hotel.

>>3745503>>3745508This sort of validates David Ross' concerns of wanting to carry a gun for protection in case such dangerous incidents occurred toward him.
https://www.flayrah.com/2921/anthrocon-bans-fur-over-open-carry"Anthrocon's response
These actions did not go unnoticed. In an brief letter, Anthrocon chairman and CEO Dr. Samuel Conway suggested that if the area was so dangerous as to require a firearm, it would be best not to come:
" You have repeatedly insisted that the area in which Anthrocon's convention takes place is sufficiently dangerous that it is necessary to carry a firearm for protection. If that is indeed the case, then we feel it is wisest you not attend so that you need not be exposed to unnecessary danger. "
Mr. Ross disputed this, saying that he only carried his firearm "outside of the Westin and convention center," and that he had not said the area was a particularly unsafe "hot zone.""

Anthrocon isn't at the Wyndham Hotel. Anthrocon is at the WESTIN. The Wyndham is 10 BLOCKS AWAY from Anthrocon. Probably have people staying there, but I doubt if they have any staff there.

>>3745512This is a safety issue for all hotels. Anthrocon has little to no proper security and this could have easily happened at the main convention hotel or convention space also.
