>>3487483 I was once given a detailed culinary explanation as to why putting ketchup on hot dogs is 'wrong' but when all is said and done do what you want, it's just a fucking hot dog.

>>3487514 I heard this is somewhat common in places although it sounds pretty nasty.

Because "wasting food is bad ™" mom would mix all the 'not enough for a full bowl of cereal' boxes of cereal together but she wouldn't pay any attention to what she was mixing. -- You can mix certain cereals but some are NOT good combinations. For instance you should never mix puffs with flakes. You end up with 'gooey-puffs'.

I did it when I was a young kid. Like, real young. But at some point early on, before my teens, the combination somehow turned..........unnatural. Ketchup went out. Mustard stayed, then evolved to Honey Mustard, then Spicy Mustard, whichever is available. Soon joined by relish, chili, and nacho cheese. Sonic wasn't lying, a good chili dog is the shit. Just keep mints on hand for afterwards.

Still, its only as good as it's foundations. Tried Martin's Potato Buns once, used them ever since. Anyone know some great hot dog brands? None of that generic Ball Park shit. Can't usually find better brands in many supermarkets than Nathan's, but its been ages since I've had a real Footlong Coney dog. Mouth's watering just from the memories...

Tried a similar combination at Magic Kingdom's Casey's. Did not like.. at all. (the chili combination).

Then, I found the hotdogs outside of Universal Studios (city walk) way better in taste.

Which is funny, because normal "street" hotdogs in Magic Kingdom taste better than anything on Universal "quick" food kiosks.

>>3487600 I can't find the original article but I found a couple others that essentially said that ketchup 'overwhelms' the flavor of whatever you put it on so adding ketchup means you only taste ketchup and not the hot dog. -- Diced tomatoes, however, are fine.

Essentially you put ketchup on things that are too shitty to eat without ketchup and by putting ketchup on a hot dog is an 'insult' to the hot dog makers. Similar to why you don't put ketchup on steak (GOOD steak that is).

Then there's this (see pic) from someplace calling itself the 'National Hot Dog and Sausage Council'.

so, in defense of 'ketchup on hot dogs,' I'm sparing with it overall. Don't really care about fries ("...chips," wanker) with ketchup, cannot fathom ketchup on eggs (really what the hell is wrong with people). It's just good on dogs, burgers, and baked onto meatloaf :B

I just remembered, as a kid, I'd have Spam sandwiches. Which is a bit ghetto, but hardly unheard of.

The wierd part is, I started putting French salad dressing on it. Never could explain it. I just liked the taste.

Then one day, I had some mayonnaise, and quickly realized that the French dressing/Spam combo tasted exactly the same. I was enjoying "Mayonnaise Meat". It was the fattest fucking kid thing I'd ever heard of.

I haven't touched the dressing or Spam since.
