The sound quality wasn't as good. That remix you posted sounds very 90s. Reminds me of Robert Miles' "Children".

im back on my gay shit

A lot of these are old enjoyable classics but some of my favorite old time songs are the ones that you NEVER hear on the radio. Either because they're too god-dammed long for the '3 to 4 minute' radio format* .. or they just never clicked with radio audiences.

Some examples:

B52's Junebug
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL4wgaM5wNU
While 'Love Shack' is an okay song I've gotten really sick and tired of it because it's one of only two B52s songs you ever hear (the other being Rock Lobster .. which I hear at KMart sometimes .. holy shit Rock Lobster is Musak .. god am I old)

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgzGwKwLmgM
(mario version)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDWJFMXOY88

Prince - Lets Pretend We're Married
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXkCtFo4ttI

Most anything from Rush that isn't "Tom Sawyer" like those super long sci-fi songs:
Cygnus X1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlNrQGmj6oQ

  • Only two really popular songs managed to break this length rule: Bohemian Rhapsody and American Pie

I see your Junebug, and raise you Strobe Light (1980)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrYxPH1zH18

Stations never play Queen's Body Language (1982)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2EDkv_dyeI

Even when Prince died, most stations didn't stray too far from the usual Prince tunes they play (usually the popular singles between 1982-1986). Don't think I have ever heard Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad (1979)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPaYtVJouYA

I recently heard The Necromancer (1975), liked it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3Hn8ywmjEI

>Only two really popular songs managed to break this length rule: Bohemian Rhapsody and American Pie

Don't forget Stairway To Heaven. All three are overplayed. Oasis' Champagne Supernova usually got the full seven minutes played, however even that song has started to become neutered.

>but some of my favorite old time songs are the ones that you NEVER hear on the radio.

If you really love music, you hate radio. This is a realization that dawned on me years ago. Radio isn't about the music, it's about profit. Its a business.

>or they just never clicked with radio audiences.

More like they were never given the chance. Same repetitive playlists, over and over. And it seems to have gotten worse over the last few years. I find alternative college radio the only reprieve. But even then, I am mostly done with radio and load up on songs myself.

No.3477129

>>3477123 Yup.. I forgot about Stairway. There may be one or two more that exceed 6 minutes but those are the big three.

Another radio transgression is when they take a somewhat long song and chop parts out of it to shorten it up.

I also never understood the method by which songs are selected for the radio. A new album comes out and you never hear more than 3 tracks .. ever. You're right -- a lot of good ones just never given a chance.

For a while I stopped listening to regular music stations and switched to talk radio until I got tired of idiotic radio commentators. Then I switched to the Spanish station but even there things got really repetitive even though I had no idea what they were singing about. Now whenever I drive I either have my own music or don't have the radio on at all .. which occasionally bugs the crap out of passengers.
