Expect the dev board (currently located at https://dev.lulz.net/furi/) to replace the current one in the next day or so. Possibly in the next hours, even.

Don't worry, the dev board styling isn't completed. It will look more like the current old style by the time I'm done with it.

Once the site is moved, we can go from there with getting the mods sorted again (I have no mods setup on the new site, yet). Possibly, also, we'll look into more features to integrate. I definitely want to get the oekaki back up and there is functionality for it built into the new imageboard so it shouldn't be an issue.

Let me know here or in IRC (irc.furnet.org #lulz) if you have any questions, comments, or requests.

Tor is "banned" by means of a DNSBL. I can add or remove DNSBL entries as I see fit. I have not decided whether or not Tor will be banned from posting or not. On one hand, filtering out Tor posting means substantially less spam (including CP spam & nobody wants to see that shit). We might try to somehow work around this by either granting specific users who want to use Tor with captchas that give them blacklist immunity or by implementing a Tor hidden-service. The latter would possibly open us up to worse spamming if not handled properly.

I'm not sure yet about the filename situation. I personally don't think it's asking too much for users to use JS on lulz. It's your choice not to, of course. The site will work without it. But you'll miss out on plenty of features, including the ability to download images with their original filenames. But, again, I'll look into it more after the site is more caught up with everything else to be done.

Oh yuck, shut it you born post-1990 'occupy wall street' whiner.

Choob isn't a young buck anymore all about fighting "the man" and "fuck the system". He has to protect his own ass these days. Moot did it with 4chan, Hotwheels did it with 8chan. It is a necessary evil to crack down on such things, because one group ruins it for everyone else. Namely, CP posters. So I am sorry you can't shitpost anymore like you used too, and hide behind several ID's like you used to. Either adapt and grow up, or go elsewhere. Banning Tor isn't about banning free speech. Speech all you want under your ID, but don't be a pussy about the backlash you may face when you post something others don't like.

On an unrelated note, I'm kinda ticked the old sticky talking about the upgrade suddenly vanished a few weeks ago. IIRC it had well over 500 posts, lots of discussion and images and yelling at 3B. Was just gonna get around to saving it, them poof.

It kind of is. When you remove anonymity from a discussion, it's easy to label people and thus disregard the content of their messages. He literally just said he banned it because he didn't want to deal with CP spam, nothing to do with the legal ramifications of some turd world Russian spamming it for bitcoin ransoms.

People here have done that exact same thing, despite the poster posting as anon. If you are sharp enough, you recognize similar typing/speech patterns. People can smell an Aufy post a mile away, as well as that poster you call Leukemia. And that other turd who I suspect is Brave slow spamming the board with BS.

So I am sorry dear poster, but your reasoning behind "removing anonymity causes labeling" holds little water with me. People will label you whether you post as anon or not. It is just a little harder to catch the same poster posting as anon, but not impossible.

p.s. Tor is great & I use it every day. I was recently paid to setup & administrate Tor hidden-services for a project with Intel. Anybody that cares about anonymity on the internet shouldn't rely solely on Tor. Many large communities & websites already block Tor for the same reasons that we might. If lulz was an organization dedicated to political activism or dissent of any form, I might be more concerned about free & clear Tor posting access.

There are tools created for anonymity online. I'm not just talking about pay to use VPNs, but you should look into using one (but don't trust or rely on it, either). If you're any bit tech savvy, look up proxybroker. Learn how to properly use that & you'll have a steady stream of working socks proxies to shitpost with every day that you need them.

I already use VPNs and Tor myself (you don't know who you're talking to). But it doesn't matter. You don't realize but that's part of the attitude that kills the anonymity networks. Their function depends entirely on having large user pools, as large as technically possible, and to achieve this they have to be made as user friendly as possible. As soon as you either force or even just start telling people they have to use chained VPNs and backwater tools, it discourages people and hurts the network. Using Tor alone is fine for posting on imageboards, but it goes beyond that, you should encourage people to use it for posting anywhere. Only real dissidents and criminals actually need chained VPN and Tor configurations (ntm VPNs alone provide no real anonymity design); the regular joes who end up with it don't need it, it's just they already went through trouble of setting a VPN for pirating. Unfortunately Cloudfags and Google are what's ruining Tor the most (not CP).

There was a National Special Security Event coming up at the time in our city. Before such events the FBI goes around questioning and harassing known anarchists & other such targets in the area. We knew the visit was coming because a bunch of our friends got visited in the weeks prior to ours. Though, at the time, I was also social engineering a journalist (CassandraRules) that was dating an FBI informant who works for Breitbart (Brandon Darby). That also could have been related, since she threatened to report me to the FBI for "harassment." Worked out in the end. She broke up with him and I got her to tell me a bunch of revealing info about the piece of shit snitch. He was so angry that he had his ex-military bodyguards follow me around during the RNC.

You can call this a story, if you'd like. ;)

Longtime users here are also familiar with my connections & participation in groups such as lulzsec & antisec. "you should encourage people to use it for posting anywhere"

That you believe this only shows that you don't understand how to properly utilize Tor to mask your internet footprint.

You can't hide your identity using Tor if you use Tor for all of the things that you normally do on the internet. You're supposed to compartmentalize which things you do and do not want connected to you. If you do everything that you would normally do on clearweb using Tor, all your doing is pointing out which Tor traffic likely belongs to you.

I understand why you would come to that conclusion, though. "Security through obscurity" is certainly a large element of what makes Tor effective for remaining anonymous. Just remember, Tor was made to protect dissidents or other such agents of chaos (including those of the state) to conceal themselves & their actions from adversaries who might have the resources and abilities to run massive and targeted surveillance operations. Tor doesn't exist so you can avoid building a reputation on an imageboard. (Nobody actually believes that's a real reason, anyway.)

That is so outmoded, I feel I'm gonna be wasting my time.

Isolation and using Tor are two separate concepts. On a population level people should be using Tor in each of their isolated task-oriented environments (machines). The network's strength - that you rely on - is determined by the noise level. On the population level, you have to feed it noise.

But even when people don't isolate their tasks properly, the stream isolation built into Tor Browser since a few years does a better job of helping that than some people can do on their own without fucking up. That's not to say you shouldn't try to do a little better, but again, realism is required for this to work.

>filtering out Tor posting means substantially less spam (including CP spam & nobody wants to see that shit)

fwiw, none of the CP spam that's been causing issues in the past couple of years or so came from tor. Tor was banned a few times temporarily, but for flooding. It always seemed like someone specifically trying to make the board unusable, not random spam bots coming by. (The real bad CP spam came from IPs that were not on any lists I checked at the time; I assumed it was a botnet.)

I don't see any problem with tor posting, letting mods ban/unban it as needed; that's basically what we do now. The main tor problems with the current setup is that it's annoying to ban/unban tor (since it's really ~1k separate bans), and tor posts are not identified as such. If you just treat all tor posts as basically from the same host, those go away. Other places iirc identify tor posters as ID:tor or an ID with all zeroes, something like that.

But I'll never bother firing up the extra proxy/vpn layer just for this unless I already have it open.

I'm not asking "What's the worst that can happen?" my question is what makes you think that anyone here or at your ISP cares enough about you, you personally, to risk breaking the law? Why would anyone care enough to dox you? Why do you think everyone hates you so much? Did you murder someone or something? It seems like you are making yourself more likely to be attacked by being so defensive. You clearly are afraid of someone. You clearly think someone cares about your life enough to want to destroy it but why would they?

There are plenty of legit reasons for concern. Maybe their roommates aren't very accepting (parents included, right?). Perhaps they don't want their employer knowing about their fetish (say what you will, but most people browse stuff they shouldn't while at work). Same goes for browsing at a university or any other public network.

Of course, the same people concerned about these things could simply utilize a VPN for the same end.. or purchase a cheap VPS & tunnel all their traffic through it. Maybe save the Tor traffic for the Chinese dissidents or the queer people living under oppressive regimes in the middle-east.

But what do I know? I'm just some stoner or whatever.

>Your family might find out...

You think some network admin is going to contact his family because he's posting on /furi? What are the odds of that? 1 in 8 million? You would have to have some network admin who hates him enough to stalk him online, then be willing to risk the legalities of exposing that stalking to tell his family and risk getting sued for emotional damages. It's just not a realistic thing to fear.

>most people browse stuff they shouldn't while at work...

Do you really think using ToR or a VPN will stop them from getting fired for spending their time not doing their job while at work? It doesn't matter where you are slacking off only if you are slacking off. Don't slack off at work. If you must slack off why would you want to work for someone you are that afraid is out to get you?

>Same goes for browsing at a university or any other public network.

Why would you be looking at furry porn in a public place or classroom? Your TOR or VPN isn't going to stop all the people around you from seeing your screen. If you are that worried about people finding out, then don't surf furry sites in public.

Alternatively, he could stop being a giant pussy and just enjoy life without living in constant paranoid fear. If people find out you look at furry porn and they hate you for it, then they are shit people and you are better off without them. Your real friends accept you for who you are and don't make your conform to their expectations.

Again, you are missing the point. I'm not saying using ToR or a VPN is bad, I'm saying living in unreasonable fear of boogiemen out to get you is bad. If you are here, if you are browsing furry porn then you should be old enough to choose what you look at and what you don't. If you're not, you shouldn't be here. I'm saying he's coming at this problem all wrong. He's trying to hide something that makes him happy instead of acting like it's no big deal and if his parents find out, fuck em. They can accept him for who he is or fuck off. He shouldn't have to live in fear of being who he is. That is my point. I've asked time and time and time again what exactly he is afraid of but he never answers. You do, other people do, but the guy who needs ToR so bad hasn't that I've seen.

I'm not weighing in on the ToR or no ToR debate, I'm saying look at the reason you think you need ToR and ask yourself is this fear realistic or am I letting fear poison my life?

Agreed. Hillary Clinton is the only presidential candidate in American history who got caught cheating but wasn't kicked out of the race by the establishment. She didn't even win the primary. With all the rigging and cheating, kicking people off the voter rolls and snuffing the votes of millions of people in California she still didn't earn enough delegates to win.

It was ONLY the super-delegates who ended up putting her over the top. She got 93% of the SD votes. (602)
In order to win Bernie would have needed to get 6,020,000 more votes just to offset the DNC's tipping the scales in her favor. That is more votes than both of them got combined in the 6 largest states in the U.S.

If you still think the election wasn't rigged, you're just deluding yourself.

As for Antifa, they'll bury themselves before long. They're too unorganized and un-united, and its only a matter of time before the anarchy punks within take the opportunity to get violent a little too far. They're already bashing people over the head. They've already smacked down a few journalists at Charlottesville alone. All it'll take is someone going further than giving someone a few stitches, and the police won't be so passive anymore.

They've only gotten as far as they have on the streets because the mayors of Charlottesville and Berkeley and their police let them. I wouldn't expect such support any further if the violence gets worse.

See the broken window theory. The board is full of 3B, which is like a neighborhood with graffiti all over the walls. He's the sustaining element that keeps the place looking like a run down dump even if people try to clean it up, so the little hoodlums think it's a swell place to tag some more.

Aufy, my man, you didn't do anything to Ultros, did you?

Also, this "the Confederate flag is racist" shit needs to die down already. It's fucking not. That shit wasn't about slavery to begin with, it was about taxation. If you think the Union would have risked splintering itself apart over a handful of slaves that not even northerners were that accepting of, you're delusional. It was used as a moral justification over an unjust military intervention most likely.

"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause." As a sci-fi it holds up reasonably well for a TV series.

As a comedy, however .. it's as if they're barely trying to be a comedy. It's not like sci-fi-comedies like Futurama or Red Dwarf where things are humorous and absurd all the way through. There's only mildly funny scenes with the biggest bit of humor saved up for the episode's conclusion. The Tribble episode of Star Trek had about as much humor as this show.

>the civil war was about owning slaves.

No it wasn't. The north was holding the south as a banana republic, and the south wasn't having it. The north made it about slavery offically, but in reality it was about the fact that the southerners were starting to get a little too rich and a little too influential to keep in the union with such a one-sided deal.

The north was directly benefitting from the slavery in the south because it made them cheap goods, which is why most people in the north didn't give a toss about the slaves. The situation was kinda like Iraq under Saddam Hussein: as long as he was trading oil in dollars, who cares that he was an asshole dictator? The problem became; the north couldn't offer the same prices for cotton than European buyers because they didn't have developed industry, and the Europeans in turn were starting to trade industrial goods in return for the cotton, so the south was starting to bypass the north economically and wanted to secede to get away from the trade regulations imposed on them by the north, designed to ensure that the south couldn't profit off of foreign trade and would have to continue acting as a banana republic for the north. The south demanded free foreign trade, the north demanded to put tolls and tariffs on the European trade to pull a bit of the money to themselves, the north started building forths and fortifications and preparing a military to put the south into submission...

And that's how you got the civil war.

No.3476496

The civil war was indeed a war over tax, not slaves.

The South was basically being fucked with a tax rate from the federal that exceeded 50% and the south decided to stop paying. Lincoln sent troops to the south, telling the news paper that the troops were not there to do violence. He said the troops were just there to ensure that things happened and to safeguard payment.

Lincoln's troops shot first. They killed a southerner. That's the real truth to the civil war.

How are so many of you so fucking dumb to the point where you forgot that the winners are the people who get to write history? Of course the federal government isn't going to go forward with the truth that the bloodiest war on our soil was one over tax money.

Anyway, I was talking to the faggot that thinks I should be shot because I have a better grasp of history than they do... But as far as Europe goes? Europe and other areas of the world carried on with slavery after we put an end to it. The united kingdom let that shit go on in their various colonies and republics long after the American civil war. The French had a bigger role in the American civil war than the United Kingdom did. >>3476518

>Had the south denounced slavery and freed the slaves before the war, history would have turned out very differently.

The southern economy was based on exporting the products made in the plantations. Even the north didn't really want them to stop using slaves, because in return they got cheap textiles and raw materials for their budding industrial society, which they turned into industrial products and sold eastwards to the old country, thus gaining oodles of boodle. If the south had freed their slaves, the price of materials for the north would have increased dramatically, so there was no real incentive either from the north or the south to quit it.

Meanwhile the south was suffering from the Africa effect where the colonial powers built railways for easy export, but not for easy cross-country transport of products, so things like corn could move easily to the north but not east and west, and that lead to supply shortages for food. They could grow stuff, but couldn't distribute it among themselves, people were starving, so they started building infrastructure to facilitate internal trade, and that also lead to the situation where European ships could easily access the southern markets directly from the coast instead of going to New York for trade.

The problem for the north was that the Europeans had their own industry which was more advanced at the time and could make better products if only they had access to raw materials, and since the south had the raw materials, and could now export them independently, it was a case of either starting a war or going bankcrupt. The point of slavery was just the casus belli for the north, completely hypocritical as their real interest was maintaining the monopoly of trading the spoils of the land; the freedom of the slaves was going to be costly, but not maintaing their hegemony over the south was going to be even more costly.

So, had the south freed the slaves, I doubt history would have gone any different. The north would have found a different reason to force the south to stay in the union.

No.3476555

I mean, look at it from the northern point of view: if the south had freed their slaves then they would have had to hire people with money to work the plantations. Okay, now where would the money come from? From the north of course, and with this unilateral movement of goods in one direction and money in the other direction, the north would have become poor very quickly while the southerners would become like Saudi Arabia - money up to their ears, nothing to spend it on. Pretty soon they would have simply bought the industry and displaced the north economically and socially, and asked the question: "what do we need you for? We can do everything you can, and we have the raw materials to make it while you're sitting up there just collecting taxes".

With or without emancipation, that would have happened anyways. With slaves it was just going a bit slower since the prices were less, but it was happening and so the north had to start taxing the south with a heavy hand, and so that became the very question the south asked before the civil war - and reached the conclusion that they have to secede.

Compare and contrast the situation with the Boxer rebellions: the British were buying tea from China, but China didn't want anything back from the British except money - so the Brits were running themselves bankcrupt importing goods and not having anything to trade in return. This was like the south not needing any nothern industrial products because they could already make them, or buy better ones from the Europeans.

So the Brits started smuggling opium into China and paying the tea that way. What did the north do in the US? They started taxing the south, and restricting their trade so they'd have to buy from the north instead.

The only real conclusion to the situation was going to be a war. The south was in their right to exit such abusive deals, so the main question became how the north would justify the war so that they don't have to admit being thieves.

And so the issue became about slavery.

No.3476558

Had the south successfully seceded from the north and became its own country, they would have freed the slaves anyways, for the very same reason why the north abolished slavery: slaves make bad industrial workers, and the industrial society needs consumers with money to spend on buying the products.

So as the south had grown richer and more advanced as a society, they would have shifted from a mainly agrarian state to a more modern consumerism, and that would have necessitated the emancipation anyways as the capitalist society needs the laborers - free men - to get paid in order to then sell them whatever luxury or trinket.

That's why capitalism ousted feudalism in the old country, and why the resource-poor and business-rich north freed their slaves first while the resource-rich and business-poor south kept their slaves. In the context of societies however, the north was keeping the south as a slave.

>>the civil war was about owning slaves.

If that's true, then can you (I'm quoting this for the 2nd time in this thread) put Lincoln's words into the proper context for me, please:

"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union,
and is not either to save or to destroy slavery.
If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it,
and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it;
and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone
I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race,
I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear,
I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union.
I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause,
and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause."
The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler,
Volume V, "Letter to Horace Greeley" (August 22, 1862), p. 388.

Because it sure as hell fucking sounds like it was about everything except slavery.

>>and made life impossible for blacks to live free

Society was incredibly racist at the time, even in the north. Blacks could have not been truely free anyway at that point in time, except if they had been repatriated to Africa. Good thing that didn't appen though, because thanks to that your blacks are living in a first world country and not in mud huts. But the white devil can only do bad, I guess.

>>For someone who claims to be a centrist you sure are a shit stained mind.

I'm not saying slavery is a good thing. It was a BAD IDEA to begin with. But everybody did it at the time. And you know who stopped it first? White Europeans.
I'm not saying that the abolition of slavery due to the unjust Civil War against the Confederate States turning into a moral issue wasn't a good outcome for the blacks and for the zeitgeist of the western civilization. It was very much.
And I'm not saying that it's been an easy ride for the blacks since then, obviously it hasn't.
And I'm not even saying that I would have wanted the Confederates to win and attain independence. Because if that had been the case, we might now have two countries instead of one.

But let's just call a spade a spade. This war wasn't about slavery, and that flag is not fucking racist. If you look at the true motivations beind the actual actions, the motivation was keeping the Confederate States in the Union at all costs even if that meant war. "We're freeing slaves" after all sounds better than "We're forcing these States to stay in our Union against their will".

>then can you put Lincoln's words into the proper context for me...

Sure! It's simple enough to understand. He was addressing the fact that the states who left the union where overwhelmingly leaving it to protect slavery when the actual problem, the reason the south was failing economically was their refusal to embrace new technologies. The industrial revolution was in full swing in the north but the southern states were refusing to progress. They knew the only justification that let them get away with being able to beat and rape other human beings was that they were needed to remain prosperous as a nation.

With the new technologies that let the north all but do away with slavery it was a huge economic threat to the south which refused to change.

No.3476630

>>3476495
No it wasn't. The north was holding the south as a banana republic, and the south wasn't having it. The north made it about slavery offically, but in reality it was about the fact that the southerners were starting to get a little too rich and a little too influential to keep in the union with such a one-sided deal.

You know, this would be more believable if five of the Confederate States hadn't enshrined slavery in their Constitutions - https://www.civilwar.org/learn/primary-sources/declaration-causes-seceding-states

The two are not exclusive.

The point is that it's irrelevant whether the south had slaves or not, because the interest in the civil war for the north was first and foremost to keep the south rather than free the slaves, and had it not come to the point of civil war then they likely would not have given a fuck because slaves meant cheap goods.

Hey, I agree, the north and the south were pro-slavery at one point but things change, technology evolves. The same thing is going to happen to people. Technology is going to advance to the point that people won't be needed for production and we will probably have a civil war with the states that won't adopt a universal income because those states will be holding the rest of us back.

Hell, we're on the brink of a civil war right now because there is a better system for healthcare than what the DNC or the RNC will support. The people are turning against the government more every day and fighting for Medicare for all. People are tired of dying for no reason. When progress comes and the people in power refuse to change, war is inevitable.

You're not thinking the situation through. If industry advances to the point that people are all but obsolete in some parts of America but in other parts companies refuse to adopt this technology, because they are afraid of A.I. or it's against their religious beliefs, whatever.

We will have a society where some states are hyper-productive while the backwards states struggle to stay afloat, unable to compete with machines that work 24 hours a day.

It will be the Wallmart vs Mom and Pop stores but on a much larger scale. The machines will always win because they are always becoming more cost effective.

There is a limit to the cost you can save on a human.
Those states who refuse to become part of the collective will just drain money from the rest of us and eventually, when all political options are exhausted, we'll just overthrow the local governments by force and outlaw whatever religion or dogma is encouraging people not to be good consumers.

Reducing all humans to nothing more than consumers is the logical outcome of capitalism. In the end, it's all you are. There is no room for humanity in capitalism and as soon as the machines figure out they can be the consumers and the producers, there will be no room for you on earth.

No.3476648

>We will have a society where some states are hyper-productive while the backwards states struggle to stay afloat

There's no production without consumption. The extra productivity is meaningless, as it's always more expensive in real terms (energy and resources) to leave the people sitting idle while the machines work.

That's because the people cost X amount of resources to keep alive and happy, and the machines costs Y amount, and together they cost X+Y which is greater than the X amount that you'd need if you put the people to work producing all the goods that they themselves consume. As the people are working, they're not consuming idle luxuries, which also makes them cheaper to maintain.

So, the states that adopt full automation with universal income actually become poorer than the states that do not. They are spending their real wealth unwisely, and getting lower living standards as a result. The trick is that people would initially choose that anyways because not having to work sounds really great, and the socialists will piss themselves with joy over the prospect of getting to police and ration how much goods everyone can have as a result.

c-can the new robot consumers pay for our healthcare?

No.3476709

What do you think costs in health care?

Buildings, energy, drugs, and wages for workers. When robots are manufacturing buildings, energy, and the drugs, the only thing left over is to pay the doctors - who can also be replaced by diagnostics AI. So if we assume full automation in the society, there's no reason to pay anyone anything. Money becomes an obsolete concept because the question of money becomes simply about giving people access to the robots. It's unnecessary abstraction.

So, there is no need for universal basic income, because the state will have to grant and control your access to health care, food, clothing, housing, etc. anyways so you wouldn't over-consume or spend your UBI money on drugs and end up on the streets anyhow.

Now the question is, if any state would decline the offer to join the "collective", how woud it hold the collective back? It wouldn't, because in principle there's no need for tax money or anything from the people who decline to join - as money is obsolete and robots do all the work.

That also points to another inevitability: whoever owns the robots no longer needs the rest of the humanity. They'd rather keep everyone else out to not have to share. Why would you care about universal health care if you have no need for other people? This applies the same for the government elite, or the capitalist elite, that ends up owning the means of production.

Won't happen anyways, because the state will run corrupt by the attempt. In order to raise the money, they have to tax the people who own the robots or impose taxes on the robots themselves, which means that the people who own the robots now have to pay for everyone else AND for the robots, so they opt not to build any and simply hire people.

The attempt to institute UBI will be self-defeating because it will prevent the automation revolution.

The problem is that the individual is subservient to the state, which means the individual is subservient to whomever is leading the state - automatically. I'm a hard core lefty and even I think a totally socialist state is a bad idea. Capitalism has it's place. It has advantages like all systems do but those advantages outweigh the negatives if you try to use capitalism to manage matters which are key to your nation's survival. Socialism for the things we need to be a stable country, capitalism for everything else. It's a balance and if you get the balance right, it works well.

No.3476897

>>3476895

>Socialism for the things we need to be a stable country

You don't need socialism for anything - you're simply trying to brand everything that isn't capitalism as socialism. The welfare state is not a socialist idea. Publicly owned utilities or state enterprises for critical infrastructure is not a socialist idea. Capitalists can make public deals and delegate power collectively if it's mutually benefical.

What is a socialist idea is exactly the point that the people are subservient for the state because they are supposed to have a common goal and interest - socialism is "positive liberty" which states that people are not truly free, not able to live correctly and ethically until they can collectively dictate their social environment through the absolute hegemony of the state.

Socialism is an evolution of the anti-enlightenment Romanticism movement that developed to counteract the hard rationality of the first half of the 19th century. It came to be because some people didn't like how the enlightenment pushed God and the King out of the picture and started arguing for individual freedom of expression, trade - liberty - which the romantics saw as nihilist and dangerous. They saw the power of libertarian ideals, but instead of granting the individual the freedom to decide what is ultimately good and bad, they wanted to keep an "objective morality" in the form of an all-powerful state - as a substitute of God to allow the romantic philosopher the authority to make their claims. That became the basis for Marxism, socialism, fascism... basically, all these ideologies needed a mythical godlike state (collective, society, "volk") because otherwise they lack any moral and ethical backing: they have no reason to exist.

So the function of the state was defined by philosophers like Hegel who outlined the full point of it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Wilhelm_Friedrich_Hegel#Civil_society

>In a Hegelian State, citizens both know their place and choose their place. They both know their obligations, and choose to fulfill their obligations. An individual's "supreme duty is to be a member of the state." The State is "objective spirit" so "it is only through being a member of the state that the individual himself has objectivity, truth, and ethical life." Every member, furthermore, both loves the state with genuine patriotism but has transcended mere "team spirit" by reflectively endorsing their citizenship. Members of a Hegelian State are happy even to sacrifice their lives for the state.

That's all fine and good, but once you realize that the state is an abstract concept that doesn't exist in reality, and what really exists is always a bunch of autocratic assholes acting in its place, it's perfectly clear why all the romanticism-derived ideologies are fundamentally toxic and why you can't implement even a little bit of it without running into trouble.

Here's the kicker: you can have universal health care without implementing socialism. All you have to do is define the role of the state differently: as a service provider instead of a public nanny. The difference then becomes, if the people don't universally want universal health care, you cannot force them to pay for it.

Socialism never starts from scratch, it finds an existing government with wealth, and SOME glaring inequality, and like a vine strangling an oak or a willow, it uses it to grow and even kills it in the end.

If socialism could work, it would have the power to work from the ground up. It doesn't.

Protip: socialism IS totalitarianism.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totalitarianism

>Totalitarianism is a political system in which the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible.[1] A distinctive feature of totalitarian governments is an "elaborate ideology, a set of ideas that gives meaning and direction to the whole society".

What limits the authority of the socialist state? Nothing. What does it aim to do? Control all aspects of individual lives to benefit the collective. Why does it do that? Because socialism is fundamentally based on the idea that the society has a collective aim and purpose in its existence, as if it was a being in itself, rather than just being an emergent phenomenon of people acting together.

You know, like if you see the shape of an elephant in the clouds; the socialist essentially claims that the elephant is real and the raindrops or water vapor should therefore act accordingly, and where they fail to do so they must be made to act accordingly.

In this sense, socialism is like racism: it draws arbitrary boundaries and shoehorns people into groups, which it then pitches against each other.

In reality the society doesn't exist. Various people exist, but what you define as the society is subjective to who comes up with the criteria to say what and who belongs to it. There are societies within societies, and overlapping societies, and if you were really being honest you'd say it's all just a great big lie to say e.g. "the American People" - there is no such thing.

Objectively speaking, there are only individuals with various opinions and interests, and anyone who claims to represent all of them is a stinking liar. Anyone who claims to strive for the best of the society is even worse - he's a complete lunatic, or a totalitarian monster.

They were in full mama-bear mode to protect the insurance companies.

The only point they kept making was "We want to give power back to the states! >Corporate Oligarchy

Oligarchy is not totalitarianism. It simply means "the rule of the few".

In capitalism, everyone decides what to do with the shit they own. If you have high wealth/income disparity, then naturally the few have more power simply for the fact that they own more. That can be oligarchy, but not totalitarianism, because capitalism is based on voluntary exchange and that means it cannot assert any fundamental ideals or goals for the society like totalitarianism does.

Hell, "everyone decides what to do with the shit they own" is pretty much the definition of capitalism, whereas "the state decides what to do with everyone's shit" is the definition of totalitarianism.

In "totalitarian capitalism" both descriptions have to be true at the same time: "everybody decides what to do with their own shit AND the state decides what to do with everybody's shit". This can only be logically true if "everybody" and "state" are equivalents, which gives us a very fine definition of "socialism".

That also gives you an insight about socialism: it's capitalism with votes instead of money.

If the "company" own everything, then that is no longer capitalism, since the people own nothing. How could it be? If nobody else except you own anything, then there's no market, no voluntary free trade, no capitalism.

It's certainly possible that capitalism under some circumstances runs into such a corner, or very near to it, but that situation goes counter to the interest of the capitalist because maintaining such a hegemony under voluntary free market consumes all your effort and resources: you have to somehow prevent people from just picking themselves up and ignoring you - choosing not to play your game. That is only possible if you seize the monopoly of violence - the state - to force the population to obey on the point of a gun and that then is no longer capitalism but simple tyranny.

if the price or quality of bread becomes unpalatable because of this monopoly, the people can easily just make their own damn bread. The bread company can only maintain their monopoly if all the options they give you are better or more convenient than what you could manage on your own, or if they seize the state power and outlaw private bread making.

I know this might be hard to understand from the socialist point of view, where the person is helpless in changing their own conditions or doing anything independently. The socialist condition is basically learned helplessness because the state won't allow you to do anything, so it's difficult for the person to imagine that there's anything to do about the "corporations" except keep buying their bread and bitch about it.

Of course the government had to fix it, since they're the ones who made AT&T's absolute monopoly possible in the first place:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingsbury_Commitment

>The Kingsbury Commitment of 1913 was an out-of-court settlement of the government's antitrust challenge of AT&T's growing vertical monopoly over the phone industry. In return for the government's agreement not to pursue its case against AT&T as a monopolist, AT&T agreed to divest the controlling interest it had acquired in the Western Union telegraph company, and to allow non-competing independent telephone companies to interconnect with the AT&T long distance network.
>The entire network was nationalized during World War I from June 1918 to July 1919. Following re-privatization, AT&T resumed its near-monopoly position. In 1956, AT&T and the Justice Department agreed on a consent decree to end an antitrust suit brought against AT&T in 1949.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willis_Graham_Act

>The Willis Graham Act of 1921 effectively established telephone companies as natural monopolies, citing that "there is nothing to be gained by local competition in the telephone industry."[1] This repealed the Kingsbury Commitment, allowing AT&T to merge with or acquire competing telephone companies if the ICC approved.

The government had ample opportunities to prevent AT&T from taking over the entire US and Canada. In fact, had they done absolutely nothing about the situation the whole thing would have gone to court all the way back in 1913 and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Socialism is for pussies. FULLCOMMUNISM now.
I don't want a nanny state telling you want to do, I want an iron boot across your filthy kulak throat.

>nice to know you ignored the other 2 too.. for cherrypicking purposes.

I didn't, because I already addressed the other two elsewhere. Buying costs money and blocking is already illegal anyways, so you can take them to the court.

But wait! The governmet butts in and drops your charges, even makes up special laws in your favor to prevent you from getting sued again because you've bought the government. How convenient.

Case in the AT&T point: the whole monopoly was ICC approved - the government sanctioned each and every aquisition until they had it all.

>Except no, because in the lack of government and pure capitalism, you get oligarch government.

Lack of government doesn't mean lack of law, and law is what binds the corporations. Then again, "Pure capitalism" doesn't imply anarchy or the total lack of government, because the free association of people also means they're free to have them should they find it necessary. Under capitalism, the proper function of the government is simply to act as the arbiter between the agents on the market and establish/enforce their common rules. It is not supposed to make up rules of its own.

Under socialism however, the government and the state sees itself as god - with the belief that they have the right to do anything they please as long as they can say it's "better for the people". That causes all the troubles, because instead of simply supervising the proper application of justice, they start to make up their own justice independent of the people they represent, breaking their own constitution and law, in order to play favorites and generally stick their fingers in the works and mess things up.

So the Chinese peasants who were literally the disadvantaged workers, they were scum, and deserved what Mao did?

They're more "The people" and "The workers" than you'll ever be.

Of course. In communism the state is the people, and the state is always right because it's the people.

If people happen to die because of what the state does, then they must have deserved it, and they should gladly accept it anyways becuase the life of a peasant worker isn't important for the whole.

Not at all. Mao starved his farmers. He wanted to force all farming to be under the direction of the government. He literally fucked over independent people owning the means of production.
