I like, tried drawing 4 years ago and drew these furry faces. Never tried drawing before in my life but I stopped at these because the only way I can even draw stuff like this is if I have a reference image, then I look at it and get the basic shapes by drawing lines on the reference image with photoshop, then I like, look at the shape lines and draw my faces by hand on paper and just wing it. I can't help but feel I'm cheating and it's just as bad as tracing, I don't know...

It's your choice to accept it in silence, or say something.

I still want to do the traditional cockpit instruments for the space shuttle, the ones before they replaced everything with LCD screens. It's going to be a pain in the ass, because it's going to have all sorts of instrument strips that are rolling inside
mechanisms and it's too complicated to simulate that crap moving properly so I'll have to think about how I'll cut corners somehow.

Also since I didn't get to answer back then, some idiot said in another thread that the space shuttles were death traps. Nah bro. Educate yourself, they flew 135 missions and only crashed twice. That's as safe as space travel gets.

And both incidents were preventable. For Columbia, a piece of the external tank's foam (and probably the metal/plastic thing the foam is attached to) broke off and made a big dent in the thermal shield on one of the wings. And for Challenger, they knew it was too cold to fly and yet they launched anyway and one of its rocket boosters failed due to the cold.

But at least both space shuttles took with them at least one Jew each when they exploded, so there's a positive side to it :3

>some idiot said in another thread that the space shuttles were death traps. Nah bro. Educate yourself, they flew 135 missions and only crashed twice.

"Luck" isn't a design feature. The space shuttle was a total failure because it was supposed to save money by being re-usable, yet they had to re-build it almost completely after every flight to ensure it wouldn't go kaboom. It's like driving a Ford Pinto - the design was a death trap with a rupturing gas tank and doors that jam shut when rear-ended - but those kind of accidents ended up pretty rare.

And 2 out of 135 is a shit failure rate compared to even the Russians - the Soyuz family of rockets has something like 1700 successful launches for maybe 10 failed.

i've gotten to where I can draw sketches (and I guess pseudo-inks) relatively quickly and consistently, making dynamic poses becomes a challenge without going into super cartoony style. I'm still mediocre on human forms and color/shade/details I honestly fucking dread doing because I haven't developed a coloring/detailing process I like. I'm learning the importance of closeups and my next steps are framing a sequence that is more like a page by page setup.

More subtlety in changes is required the longer the sequence is. The dream is a sequence that actually tells a story, but if it's porn, then that story is largely irrelevant and instead should focus on the expressions and action (which I still need to practice.)

I was thinking about getting into animation in the future but I would rather develop human figures, color and shading and comic paneling first.

male --> female is most common probably because there are so many males in the fandom.

I can't speak for everyone but it's more a sexual fetish. I've heard the term "autogynophilia" which is the desire to have the experience of being a woman during sexual situations, but really only for that purpose. For some others, it might be wish fulfillment into becoming or being a woman permanently but I feel this is a lot less common. I think in general, it is just a way to showcase the sensations, feelings, form, figure, intimacy of a woman by having someone transform into them, which from an art perspective is interesting to illustrate and convey.

I draw it a lot because I draw a lot of females anyways, but I do and have always had a desire to transform into other creatures, as do most fans of TF in general. Maybe omewhere along the way, feelings of sexual fantasies and the feeling of escapism via transformations scenarios crossed wires and the result is a lot of porn that happens to involve TF and vice-versa.

Using the term "transgender" implies that the fans who want to turn into females are fulfilling a deep desire to become and stay a woman, and I don't think that's really accurate. I don't think it's accurate in contrast to staying a male, which if I did have the choice would gladly continue being. Remember, there are only two genders afterall :^) Oddly, there is a "transformation fandom" that exists, and the folks there don't consider themselves furry, despite visiting furry based sites a lot for the artwork.

Here is Fay I made a year ago. She uses higher detail textures.

However, as you can see, if I don’t get the height map to be pixel perfect to the cutout shape you get ugly tearing where the 2 images come together.

When stretching 2D image, instead of solid pixel blocks, this can happen automatically if the textures are not set to scale of 2. I also get annoying freeflying pixels from the other side of the texture edge.

So I need to match the number of polygons to pixels. And that is A LOT of pixels.

Then there is the fact of doing curved height maps in 2D is really hard and time consuming.

I’m sure there are better ways to do this, but I’m happy with this for now.

So, after a year of fucking about, I finally came down to 32x32 pixel resolution to be the best workable balance of what I want to achieve... for now.

>>I want to get started in animation in 3d. What do you recommend? (apart from suicide of course)

Don't make the same mistake I did. Start out with a pirated program that costs tens of thousands of dollars to license. But on the other hand Blender wasn't a serious alternative back then so I guess I had no real choice here.

Youtube tutorials are your friend. Also give a go at pirated professional tutorials (Lynda.com etc), they should be easy to torrent and it's a more streamlined process. Maybe see if there are step-by-step tutorials in written format for free for Blender or whatever.

Just take some, do exactly what the tutorial instructs you to do and build some simple shit. Once you know where all the options are and how to do various stuff like turning lines into meshes and manipulating faces, extruding and bevelling etc., it becomes more of an artistic process than boring practice and you can start making whatever objects interest you. Try making stuff that you like and don't be discouraged if others did it better before you, or there are better models to be downloaded for free off the internet. It's about something YOU make, not about what other people make. Also maybe... try mechanical stuffs first, then progress to making creatures, but you'll eventually have to, so don't worry, you'll get there too.

Sculpting might be a workaround, but sculpting usually leaves you with shitty unoptimized meshes with ridiculous polygon count (and I can't think of a way to optimize them in a "beautiful" way - maybe others can help me out here with a method - without turning the wireframe mesh into a ugly triangly clusterfuck that will be a bitch to do the uv texture map for) so my advice is use sculpting programs and features only on a "rough draft" that you modelled first in a traditional way.

I started out with a shitty game editing program called Milkshape 3D early 2004, moved on to Caligari Truespace that summer, dicked around trying to model some guns in it, and then that winter a friend of my dad gave me a pirated copy of 3D Studio Max 3.0 with Character Studio and tutorials and sample scenes and materials and pretty much everything you can wish for. I just followed the tutorials and modelled various stuff from there, doing my own stuff in-between as I went along. Did some game models editing at first, then made my own, even animated and stuff.

Also tried Maya, it's neat but kinda complicated and feels less streamlined than 3DSMax. Tried XSI, caught my fingers in it. Tried Lightwave3D, it's got a weird interface and it feels skimpy in features. Tried Cinema4D, fell in love with the 'paint directly on the model' feature. Also it's portable. Dicked around in Sculptris but didn't do much. Tried ZBrush, sculpting in it is a pain in the ass, since I can't seem to figure out how to navigate between objects properly. I kinda like Mudbox, it feels just right for sculpting, but I definitely need more practice. And I thought Blender was absolutely impossible to use, until I needed it for FlightGear stuffs and it's been a tough battle with the stupid interface ever since.

I suppose stay focused, even when inspiration is low. When you don't feel like doing much, do something easy. Take time to go through EVERY SINGLE MENU ITEM and try to apply it somehow to something, see what it can do, what parameters it has, even if in a just sort-of vague "proof of concept" way. Watch a tutorial when you have a moment to spare. Preferably when you have to sit and do nothing, not when you're supposed to be doing anything else, cause you actually need to pay attention to what's going on.

And keep doing this until you feel you can say to yourself about something you just made: "hey, this looks pretty good, doesn't it?"

Nah, it can't be a linear scene-wide animation.

I think the models in FlightGear have the uv coordinates shift in relation to various flight parameters changing.

I've been thinking about it. I knew one can use a few in-viewport slider manipulators (3DSMax has these) and then from the parameter wiring dialog somehow link them to the UV coordinates (if possible) of their respective flight indicator. I've seen a similar thing in some animation tutorial where a slider was used for animation purposes. I also saw objects can have custom parameters added to them, but I don't really know if my version (2012) supports it or if it's doable, I'm looking into it now. Maybe if not, I can make a script that either makes sliders appear in the scripts section of the command panel. But, like... I made a custom script with full interface ONCE... ten years ago, and half of it was probably copied off other scripts. Ugh, this is going to be a pain in the ass.

Thanks for the comment though, it made me research this stuff.

Do you have any stats that say they would have lost less money if they hadn't made it reusable.

Also, just because the tech wasn't economical AT THE TIME doesn't mean it can't be with enough R&D. The Space Shuttles have been still using fucking eighties-era board computers even when they decommissioned them in 2011! Literally the only fucking improvement the Space Shuttle program saw was moving away from traditional flight instruments to a "glass cockpit" somewhere in the late '90s. Aside from that, virtually no significant technological improvement. If you look at all the flight instruments and panels, it seems to be basically all analogue shit with fucking huge-ass plugs with hundreds of pins. With today's technology, you could probably make it 5 times lighter and keep it multiple-redundant by connecting everything with digital data connections and have four pins per device and two backup cables instead of several cables with hundreds of pins. Not to mention all the other improvements in terms of materials and processing power and sensors and whatnot we've had since. We do deserve to put our best tech of the current day in a modern space shuttle.

I have a completely different theory as to why they scrapped the space shuttle program and currently have to use Russian tech in order to get their people on the ISS. Not that Russian tech doesn't have its own charm, even if it's basically copied in every way from what the west already did, but for fuck's sake. The problem is obvious, and it's not the Shuttle itself.

http://www.thespacereview.com/article/1881/1

>The engines were to fly 55 times before overhaul and the airframes were good for 100 flights before servicing, If these goals could be met, launch costs would fall to little more than three times the cost of propellants
>The cost per mission was promised at $10.5 million (in 1972 dollars), for a cost per pound to low earth orbit (LEO) of $210 per pound.
>The engines never reached their design goals and that worked against operability in several ways. First, the engines had to be removed and rebuilt each flight adding to cost, and secondly their lack of thrust growth capability meant that many shuttle operational features were never added, because their additional weight would take away critical payload mass. The new shuttle tile thermal protection system (TPS) proved to be hygroscopic (absorbs water out of the air), which meant each individual tile had to be waterproofed between flights, and the waterproofing compound was so highly toxic that the workers had to wear bio-isolation suits when working. The final Space Shuttle required hundreds of workers to service the vehicle, resulting in ground turnaround times averaging 87 days instead of the planned 160 hours; and instead of $10.5 million per flight, the touch labor and material costs per flight approached $200 million. The total Kennedy Space Center (KSC) cost per flight was over $500 million, or roughly $10,000 per pound.
>Today, a typical trip to low Earth orbit (LEO) costs about $80 million, or about $6,000 per pound.

The Space Shuttle ended almost twice as expensive as regular rockets. The main reason it was used for as long was because it was Too Big to Fail (TM) as the whole program was essentially used to pump taxpayer money into the aerospace industry.

No.3470582

>>3470561

>I hope you're not including Progress, because that's a cargo vehicle.

The Space Shuttle was supposed to be a space truck - a cargo vehicle - and it was built and tested to fly unmanned, but for political reasons they removed the autopilot. It was for the exact same reason why the Soviet engineers put in all sorts of dials and buttons for Juri Gagarin to press, even though the whole flight was technically planned to the second and could be automated from start to finish - what's the point of manned flight if the man is just sitting along for the ride? The politicians wanted the space truck to have pilots for PR reasons, and NASA wanted no pilots so they could relax the safety features and drop cost - and the politicians won.

>"They wanted to fly the thing unmanned. I went to many, many meetings where they [said they] wanted to fly the thing unmanned, but finally the program manager up at [NASA] Headquarters John Yardley, he said he wasn't going to come across California with nobody in the spacecraft. So, we got to fly it manned."

-John Young

The second reason besides politics is that NASA didn't trust their own systems enough. On landing the space shuttle had no power, so it couldn't go around for a second take, so they finally reasoned that human pilots could at least attempt to crash-land it on a highway or something.

The Soviet version of the Shuttle, Buran, removed the main engine from the orbiter and replaced it with small jet engines, so it could actually fly under autopilot and remote control, so they could land it anywhere they want.

It just reminds me of how sad what happened to Wh40K in the gameing industry.

We had gems like DoW1, Space Marine and then an endless tide of shit moneygrab games what are also happen to be a shit console port most of the time.

Oh well its specially sad when you have memories of old SW games, like Rouge Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, Jedi Knight, X-wing Alliance, KotoR 1... Then to be fucked up with shits like Force Commander, that cheap Age of Empires 2 reskin game (maybe galactic battlegrounds), that shit console game where you supposed to be Darth Vader's super secret trainee sith...

The fact that you seem to post almost exclusively to Pedobunny would suggest otherwise. Plus, there was time last year when there was some new board or artsite that originally was going to allow cubporn and then banned it when the developers realized how much people fucking hate that crap. Then you flipped your shit and spent 3 threads sperging over it. That's not the actions of somebody who doesn't have a sexual interest in children.

Cool, glad to have pointed you in the right direction. Wiring can work with anything, you can wire say, an object's position X to the U or V or both coordinates. You can also do sliders, 3dsmax had those for many years by now. (animating UVs is what I meant by saying "animate texture")
It's either Alt+1 or +5 that opens attribute editor. In the modifiers drop-down, look for Attribute Holder modifier to put it in the stack. 2012 version should have it, otherwise it's Pen's Attribute Holder you need to look for.
In the editor window, make sure it's set to add attributes to currently highlighted modifier (drop-down list at the top).
It's a lot easier to work with attributes this way, instead of doing it through script (you can't alter them using the attribute editor).
Note about wiring - it's not 100% reliable. Wirings can break randomly. Instancing tracks is very reliable, but that needs several more paragraphs to explain how they work and where they are..

  2. You're exaggerating. FN capitulated because they're a business, but basically they got kneecapped before they could tip the balance of users away from FA to make it the "new default". Doesn't matter what the cause was, it made the place seem subject to the whims of nutty ideologues and that left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

The lines are blocky and lack variation in opacity and density. The perspective is the functional part of the head tbh. You don't have to have the same type of lines through-out the drawing.

Feathers are 100% texture and use of negative space. You outline the fuck out of your art and it causes your feathers to flatten out (and flatten the head as a result).

I know how to navigate flash inside and out. i've memorized every hotkey related to animating, know all of the tools i need for my workflow, and know a ton of quirks and tricks (I.E. hackily use a movie clip symbol to "flatten" a multi-layer symbol for a proper fade-out), and can pump out a mockup of an idea within minutes. oh, and I've decompiled and recompiled plugins to tweak them to my needs.

i can rough out an idea within a matter of minutes and the software doesn't get in the way. i'll learn other software when it's necessary.

Lol Muki don't worry about it- a tool is only as good as the hand that uses it. It's pointless weighing one against the other when you have no way to create equivalency between the skills and abilities of the individuals who use them.

A vector is just a representation of a relationship between various points. Saying a visual relationship is shit for art is a meaningless statement- address the product, not the process behind it.

>The R-7 is "the Soyuz family of rockets"

No it isn't. The Soyuz family belongs to the R7 family in the same sense how cats belong to felines. The Soyuz family of rockets starts from 1966, with "Soyuz". You have to compare apples to apples - we aren't adding e.g. all the Gemini program failures to the US Shuttle launch failure rate either.

Counting from 1966 forwards you get 1,027 launches, or 1,029 if you count the 1965 Soyuz/Vostok mashup. Of those launches, 27 failed due to the launch system. That's a rate of 2.6%

No.3472618

>>3472617
Although comparisons of the failure rates is somewhat meaningless, because the Space Shuttle was running on good luck more than good design.

After Columbia burned up in the atmosphere, it was revealed that the thermal tile system was never designed to cope with impacts and on all previous flights they were just incredibly lucky that no debris hit the critical spots.

They "fixed" it by keeping a rescue mission on hand.

Youre a dick, I like his artwork and style. They also freely share what they create. I've seen artists change or 'improve' their style and it doesn't look as good. King Cheetah (Shon Howell) is one example. I enjoy their content as well. The TF to the donkey gal and sergal gal were cute and sexy. You did nothing to suggest improvements, all you did was throw down on someone that has more talent at this than you.

No.3475766

>>3475761

He's just baiting a response dude- look at it like this:

"Top right is killing it, great emotion- nice work!"

"It fucking sucks. You never get any better."

With these two replies, you get both poles of the feedback spectrum. Not only that, but you as an artist have the benefit of being able to choose which one to build off- if you want to. One was a bit saccharine (however sincere), and the other was pure vitriol (again...however sincere).

Sometimes you want to beat yourself up a little as an artist to push forward. Other times, you just want a bit of an ass pat to carry on. What people sometimes forget is that no one is a machine and has to respond to given messages a set way or demand the same thing. It comes down to what you acknowledge as having true merit at the end of the day, and how you decide to use that to move forward.

>>3475713 has a chance to choose which message they find most beneficial (or neither- lol I know it's not the first time they've had to put up with this sort of thing). It's up to them how they take it, just as much as it's up to >>3475743 if they want to be a butthole.

IDK, just don't take the bait. Low tier comments deserve a low tier response- you're better than that :3.
