post your thoughts and images on bygone era.
there's no need to reinvent the wheel; if its not broken don't fix it; ohh look is that important? Let me replace it with a shitty product that will break down it's called planned obsolescence. Come on humans, your species is starting to screw up if you don't step up your game; otherwise we will replace you.

All these idioms won't actually go away because cars actually are still built with manual window winders, old style bellows cameras still exist, motorcycles still have crank starts, and corded telephones are still in use in offices and businesses.

The only things that don't make sense are OS icons. There are now people graduating from universities who have literally never used a diskette or seen a diskette drive in person. All the computing idioms created by the "transition generation" between late 70's, early 90's are obsolete now.

god i hate the android thing where it tells you to slide to answer, but rather than having one clear direction, or even buttons off to the side, you slide one way to answer and another to cancel, and it doesn't tell you which way is which until you've accidentally cancelled your boss's call and now he's MAD because he knows it didn't time out that quickly.

We also have cartoons. No show would be complete without that cash register "caching" sound, even though even I haven't seen a manual cash register for about 20 years.

I guess pop culture references (Family Guy notwithstanding) are good for at least something.

>>3509956 Cash registers still make that 'cha-ching' bell noise however it's not really a bell, just a speaker playing a 'cha-ching' noise. Similar cash registers can play other noises too -- the Sonic 'got a ring bling' noise is popular too.

Fake things emulating old real things is becoming disturbingly common. At train crossings you'll hear a bell and train horn ... but the bell sound being played out of a speaker and sometimes the train horn is being played out the same speaker.

I heard there's even talk of having electric cars play some kind of car engine noise because they're 'too quiet' and people can't hear them coming.

I suppose in 2099 when restaurants serve food pills they'll also display a picture of the real food you're apparently eating on the plate.

It's not just electric cars. Regular cars do that, because the engines are too quiet so they sound wimpy to the driver.

They play you back engine sounds through the stereo.

I'd hope those emulated train horns aren't being done in place of actual train horns. We actually have a law about that (one of my friends is a locomotive engineer.)

Under the Train Horn Rule (49 CFR Part 222), locomotive engineers must begin to sound train horns at least 15 seconds, and no more than 20 seconds, in advance of all public grade crossings.

No exception is made for automation.

Nobody knows what these is. They won't touch it because it might have bacteria. So old and dusty and gross. They should collect them all and burn them so we don't get infected.
