A smaller resolution of 3000x3000, 2000x2000, or 1200x1200 if you post on FA, would be much better for flat colors. You only need a 6K PNG HD format if you plan to draw a 300$ work.

Yeah Idk I was kinda fond of the texture the missed spots was giving it but I'll fill it in if it looks stupid.

also the res is just the working resolution. Normally I'll post between 3000 to 2000 res max at the largest dimension side. Since I just got a new rig I was testing the response time of larger brushes at a higher working resolution since it will translate to more interesting and easier blending later in the process.

Any suggestions for the line work itself? here is a version without the line work for reference

In any case thanks for the responses feedback is always appreciated.

Most of the thicker lines involved we done with one stroke (with about 50 ctrl + zs involved on each mind you) and the inconsistency of the width comes from the texture used in the brush. I felt like it made the piece interesting but honestly looking at it scaled down it might come across as sloppy. There is a fair bit of feathering with a smaller sized brush used to connect some of these larger lines and that's where my main concern for this piece comes from. Should I use more? Less? I used it mostly to imply shape should I also use it to imply shading or would that make it visually inconsistent? Should I think less about making porn on the internet? Yeah. But still I wanna know

No.3495187

>>3495173
Oh yeah I forgot to mention. Try making the leopard print larger like way larger. Less pieces of leopard print the less distracting it will be. Find a ref that is higher res or better yet find a vector that your program of choice can support. That way you can adjust color of the print to your exact specifications and the exact size you need with out losing quality.

Say what you want about advanced art, not anyone can do it from the gate. From lack of skill or time, people have to make compromises.

No.3495567

Yes, that's exactly what I said. You don't have to draw the whole desert and the detail can detract from the focal point. This is why negative space is important to convey a lot through what isn't drawn or painted.

If your characters are outlined, your backround needs to be lined. If you're doing some shitty oil filter and smudging shit, then your characters need to have their lines overpainted to make them appear lineless.

Do not mix line and lineless styles, it looks like ass.

At a bare minimum, if lineless backround with lined characters, color your line art with nearest neighbor character colors like my little pony.

My plan for the final project is going to be a self-portrait of sorts. The dumb orange bird with glasses has been a representation of my journey through art, so he has become a personification of my anxiety and naivety.

The project concept deals with dreams and nightmares. The images will be framed in a 3x3 format with the frame colors corresponding with the content of the piece. For example, a top image would be him making pancakes and the bottom would be his guts hanging out. It deals with how food makes me anxious since I starve to death to afford art supplies. Anyways, my peers will get mad over it and bitch me out.

You did the foreshortening of the leg well and you have the basic concept of the body structure down better than most furry artists.

If you ever feel like you're in a rut try some new techniques. I just found this guy who teaches figure drawing using a technique he calls the bean. He spends a little too much time trying to be silly but if you skip the dumb jokes he has good ideas. His videos build on each other in complexity so it's like taking an art class.

He finally realized he wasted years and thousands of dollars in tuition on art school when he could've done something respectable with his life like major in medicine, engineering, chemistry, IT, etc.

No.3496396

>Sooner or later all "artists" must deal with this fact.

You don't need the quotation marks. All art is technically pointless, and all artists have to deal with the fact that they're only wasting everyone else's time and money. Art is priceless because it has no use value whatsoever, and any other possible value is completely subjective to the viewer so you can't even say the artist has really accomplished anything of worth - that's not dependent on the artist.

From there you can go two ways: rationalize the situation as "well it's their choice to waste money on me, so I deserve it" (aka. fool and his money is soon parted), or become professional illustrators - if they have the skill.

Too often artists become drunks and crazies exactly because they find no place in the society, and they have to perform some major mental gymnastics to justify themselves to themselves.

Art being worthless doesn't mean we can't have things we like. The question is merely about how you define yourself as an artist.

Drawing other people's ideas isn't being an artist - that's called being an illustrator. You're an artist when you're expressing yourself and your own ideas, but then the problem becomes that your self-expression isn't worth diddly squat in the objective sense, and you only earn money if someone else happens to like it and buy it off of you. But what then is the difference between selling your "art" because you happened to draw what someone else liked, or asking them what they'd like to have in the first place? Same difference as a hobo trying to clean your car window at the stop lights, and you driving in to a car cleaner.

So the self-defined artist is trying to glean some self-importance out of being popular and appreciated, and most importantly - paid - but really they were just throwing shit at the wall and some of it happened to stick. Then they refuse to admit that by pandering to this popular demand, by copying their earlier success, they're just being kitsch.

>By saying art is worthless, humanity is as such.

Good day captain obvious. Now, what conclusions are you going to draw out of that?

Remember that if you invoke nihilism, terms like "worthless" lose meaning as there is only subjective evaluation of worth. You can't have your cake and eat it as well. If you assert that art is worth something, you also have to assert why - meanwhile, making the opposite claim needs no such reason because it is starting from a point of ignorance: we do not know what "worth" is.

No.3496412

By analogy, art is only worth something to the artist, as humanity is worth to the humanity. If you take a point of view outside of the artist, or outside of the humanity - what do rocks care about men? Nothing.

Making claims like "art is humanity" is meaningless. Shitting is humanity. Dying is humanity. Building atom bombs and killing everything around is humanity. Pumping paint up your rectum with a bicycle pump and bungee jumping with the cord around your neck over a canvas is art, and humanity, too.

So what is it worth?

When you can keep an SDS-Max drill steady alone for a few hours standing on a ladder drilling through concrete, and follow it up by pulling thousands of feet of cable in a day regularly... it does say something about your body type.

I really don't pay much attention to my diet though. Its still pretty balanced, but I could probably lean up a bit if I wanted to cut out the alcohol, ranch dressing, and the giant maxwell house 2x max coffee/protein/cane sugar/ mint chocolate chip coacoa mug I drink a day. (maybe you keep it up as a reminder?)

the more work you make, the more honest self-critique you maintain, the more youll improve. some people dont realize "improvement" doesnt simply mean 'i can draw gooder' but rather you become better able to visualize things, better able to make your hand and arm do what your mind sees, and better able to identify mistakes or things that dont look quite "right"

also, no, keep your furry transformation crap out of academic efforts. personal expression is good and all, but earlier foundational classes are neither the time nor the place. you need to take advantage of them to learn and develop your skill and critical eye first

So why not draw sexual or fetishistic art in academia? If it is provocative, then why does the content matter over the message? I had to watch a student film of a girl being raped as a blow-up doll for fuck's sake, so this is par for the course.
