I was thinking of telling Zuckenberg to 'Zuck my balls' and delete my Facebook account but I still want to have some connection to friends, family and acquaintances.

Which other social media service should be my primary go-to social media .. or is all social media 'the devil' and should be avoided and ignored. I have a few others but don't use them much.

Well, aren't you a good whipping boy.
I guess I should be glad most of my family is old enough that they don't bother with computers and social media BS. The oldest youngest people who deal with that shit are my cousins who are in their 40s.

>or is all social media 'the devil' and should be avoided and ignored.

I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, so yeah, this is my stance in general.

>>Which other social media service

Wouldn't it just be whatever service your friends/family use? If they're not on it, then it's not really helping you.

If you want to just keep up with others you're not near, can't you just talk to them? Call, text, IM, email, whatever. That's pretty much what I do.

>>3477032 This actually has me leaning toward Twitter but that's one I've never used. The second option I was considering was deleting all FB posts (not sure if it can be done with one command) but keeping the account and just using it for periodic lurking.

I got suspended from twitter.

Antifa furries mobbed me.

I kinda don't feel like making a new account, but I probably should.

First, overwrite all personal info fields with bogus data. I don't know if they a change log, but go safe.
Then just delete your account the old fashioned way.

I'd totally order this tshirt if I wasn't such a poorfag.

>>3477043 A lot of the fields are already bogus. My birthday is wrong by a few days, workplace is from a TV series, schools are from a movie and a cartoon.

I should have falsified my Facebook info from the start, but its probably much too late for that. Stupid fucking Snapchat-addicted co-workers are constantly sniping pics of everyone including myself and feeding info into my profile with their posts.

People wished me a happy birthday on my profile, and its been months since I've even looked at it. But I know that thanks to my co-workers, Facebook now associates me with my place of work, and I'm still sorta fucking livid knowing that I had nothing to do with it.

To think I once thought it'd be safe to just throw up the most barebones of profiles with minimal info to do the basics, once upon a time. Not even a profile pic. Even that got filled in after a point, and I don't even fucking know who submitted it.

To this day, I still don't have a smartphone. That time's about to come to an end, but all I can think of is "If I'd gotten on this bandwagon a decade ago or more like everyone else, would I have become as gleefully ignorant and fucking careless as everyone else as I slave over my profile and Likes?"

almost all social media is designed to make you stupid. Think of it like a drug and you're the addict. It's a vice but since everyone does it we mostly get a free pass from judgement. My suggestion is to kill all of your "personal" social media and stick only to mediums which let you connect with people in a way that doesn't pass through the "town square" filter.

Also, facebook tailors what you're exposed to in a way that is deliberately designed to dumb you down. Get your news from Facebook? Well you're a lab rat whose daily diet typically includes mainly only stuff which validates your existing prejudice. That's what the control group gets. The experimental group is fed agitprop and other psyOp shit in order to piss you off or otherwise try to get you to behave in a certain way without actually appealing to your higher brain functions.

Get out while you still can. I heard Minds was okay but I don't go there myself, my vice is Twitter and is arguably worse than facebook (I originally got it for promotion which was a mistake).

Seriously though. If you buy an Android phone, you have no choice to stop Google from tracking you. For the location services, the phone uses GPS, aGPS and wifi/bluetooth network tracking to place you on the map. GPS can be turned off, and aGPS isn't precise enough for Google's purposes, but wifi location tracking cannot be shut down: the wifi is always on and always listening, and the button that says "improved precision location tracking" to enable/disable wifi SSID tracking is a placebo button.

All it does is disable the notifications from Google that ask you to snap pictures or share reviews etc. of the places you visit. That's because regardless of your choice, Google collects the names of nearby wifi networks to keep track of them, not you, but consequently they also know approximately where everyone is anyways. You just have to trust that they indeed delete/anonymize your data as soon as it arrives.

It's possible to root the phone, install bare Android on it and not install any of the Google specific apps like Maps, Gmail etc. and only then you can disable wifi tracking and turn off all wifi functions (which btw. saves a lot of battery). Trouble is, then you lose access to the appstore and your phone is gimped.

>>3477065 Google has been getting more annoying when it comes to that on my phone. Every time I go to a store it wants to know if it has free parking or some stupid shit.

>>3477070 While I'm sometimes annoyed at the 'pervasiveness' of it I've found the location tracking service extremely useful at times. In Google Maps you can deliberately let someone track you [for a specified period of time] if you're trying to meet up with them in a crowded place and don't want to keep calling and giving descriptions and directions. -- It's also good for finding your lost phone.

>>3477063 I've strictly avoided this. NOBODY from my workplace is on my friend's list even though one person has invited me. I don't write about what my workplace is or what I do specifically but will describe certain general situations that happen (like 'required' meetings where you have to drive 100 miles that could just as effectively be done over Skype because all they do is show a Powerpoint presentation and then have a Q&A session). Otherwise I don't describe work at all. -- Nearly all posts are friend-locked so if someone is going to try poking around my facebook during a job interview they're going to get very little info.

The problem isn't the tracking services, but the fact that you can't opt out, and that they lie to you by pretending to let you.

Google already got slammed in the EU for violating privacy with the mapping cars also recording wlan SSIDs - hopefully it's only a matter of time when the courts get wise about the rest of it.
